Howard Hanna Wilson Baum came into its Mon Valley Independent Summer Basketball League game with a must-win mentality against first-place BeeGraphix.

Howard Hanna was fortunate to have some guys back in the lineup that have missed the past couple games, and they were a big part of a 79-66 win over under-manned BeeGraphix to open Thursday’s tripleheader.

Keondre DeShields (Laurel Highlands) scored a game-high 33 points to lead a trio of double-figure scorers for Howard Hanna Wilson Baum.

The difference in the game was a big run early in the second half. BeeGraphix scored only one field goal in a span of 3:30. Howard Hanna on the other hand had no issues filling the bucket as they went on a 12-2 run to take a 48-42 lead.

The run was fueled by five points from Chartiers Valley freshman Jayden Davis.

“I told Jayden I was glad to have him back, just to be out there running the show,” Howard Hanna head coach Matt Rowland said. “He sees the floor so well and he does a great job of distributing the ball. It really opens things up for Keondre a little bit more, too.”

Davis finished with 15 points and eight assists.

“He would have had over 10 assists if we could have made some layups tonight,” Rowland said.
