Mozer chided for asking about Monessen’s finances

Monessen resident and mayoral candidate Ron Mozer was accused of seeking “on-the-job training” when he asked a couple of financial questions at Monday’s city council meeting.
Mozer first asked when the 2019 audit would be publicly presented to council and city residents.
The well-overdue 2019 audit was supposed to have been completed in April, according to the city’s new auditing firm, McClure and Wolfe. But Mayor Matt Shorraw and city Administrator John Harhai said they had ongoing issues with former city auditor Cypher and Cypher turning over necessary information to the new firm.
Shorraw said Monday night that Cypher and Cypher has since given McClure and Wolfe the necessary information, but Harhai said now the problem holding things up is an audit of the city’s volunteer fire department.
Harhai said a company named Fusion has an audit of a pension that was once given to former drivers of the volunteer fire department, and the city’s auditors are waiting for that information.
Mozer said part of a municipal audit is that it is presented publicly to city council so that residents will hear its presentation as well.
Shorraw said it will be presented when the city receives it.
