Ethel Joanne Pierce – Collinsburg

Ethel Joanne Pierce, 83, of Collinsburg, died Saturday, July 3, 2021. Born in West Newton on June 18, 1938, she was the daughter of the late William E. Sr. and Aola Bryner Backstrom. Ethel was a secretary for Westmoreland County Community College in Youngwood and Rostraver Public Library. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in West Newton and the YMCA Quilting Club in Carroll Township. She is survived by her sons, Larry (Cindy) Pierce of Charleroi and Jack (Carolyn) Pierce of Middletown, Md.; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John D. Pierce; brothers, Robert Russell and William Backstrom; sisters, Olga Dennick and Viola Dubinshak; and her special companion, Ron Harp. Friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at JAMES C. STUMP FUNERAL HOME INC., 580 Circle Drive, Rostraver Township, 724-929-7934, www.jamesstumpfuneralhome.com, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday with the Rev. Matthew Stabe officiating.  Interment will follow in West Newton Cemetery. A special thanks to her nephew and niece, Roger and Louisa Backstrom, for their compassionate, loving care. Also, a thank you to the staff and management at Mon Valley Care Center and Dr. Christa Malinak for their wonderful care.
