Dax Thomas State Farm’s Chloe Pordash hit a pair of free throws with 36 seconds remaining to help secure a 47-46 victory over Lee Supply in Mon Valley Independent Summer Basketball League Girls Division play Monday at Marx’s Court Time Sports Center.
Pordash, a Serra Catholic senior, poured in a team-high 19 points and added 10 rebounds for a double-double in the win.
A late run by Lee Supply (0-1) erased an eight-point deficit in the final 5:17 of the game. Lee Supply’s Caraline Sommer scored with 54 seconds remaining to give them the lead at 46-45.
However, Pordash was fouled driving to the basket and converted at the free throw line, giving State Farm back the advantage. Dax Thomas’ defense stopped Lee Supply from scoring on the next possession, locking up the win.
“(Pordash) had a nice overall game today,” State Farm coach Tom Rodriguez said. “She didn’t force any shots, she rebounded and was pretty good defensively. I need her to be good and she stepped up to the line and hit two huge free throws for us. That’s what I expect from her.”
