TJ’s Bryan will play football at Kent State

After picking up his first Division I football offer on Feb. 9, interest surrounding Thomas Jefferson offensive lineman Nick Bryan quickly grew. 

Twelve offers followed, with all but one coming from Division I programs.  

On Saturday, Bryan narrowed his list to one, announcing his verbal commitment to Kent State University. 

Bryan, a 6-3, 275-pound tackle who is entering his senior season at Thomas Jefferson, will play for head coach Sean Lewis and the Golden Flashes in the Mid-American Conference.

“I spent hours upon hours training and working hard to get to where I am today,” said Bryan, whose first Division I offer came from Kent State. “I had to sacrifice a lot of normal teenage stuff in order to have gotten to this point. 

“To be able to go to a college on a full scholarship and be the first kid in my family to go to college means everything.”

In all, Bryan had 13 offers, including one from Division II West Liberty University. Toward the end of his recruiting process, the junior narrowed his decision down to Kent State, Marshall and Massachusetts.

“Kent State stood out above the rest mainly because of its proximity to family and friends, which ultimately is my support system,” said Bryan, the son of Dale and Kristi Bryan of Pleasant Hills. “The ability to make an impact quickly on the roster stood out, too. They made it very clear to me that I was the only interior lineman that they were taking for the class of 2022.”
