Kindness shines bright in Andrew ‘Buzz’ Garnic

In over 40 years in journalism, I met a lot of people I will never forget.
Nestled near the top of that list is Andrew “Buzz” Garnic.
Buzz is a real anomaly.
Having given his entire career to the sport of boxing, a profession that thrives on toughness, aggression, strategy, hard work, intensity ad a lot of shady deals, Buzz has one of the biggest hearts you could ever come across. Deception or being dishonest was never his style.
Oh, sure, he has toughness. And even at the age of 85, his large fists are rock solid and he probably could still put a dent in a steel plate if he punched it.
He still likes to let folks know he “still works out three days a week.”
But the thing I will always remember most about Buzz is the kindness he has shown to so many, me included.
When he says everything he has done in boxing was not about the money, but for the love of the sport and the people who crossed his path in it, he isn’t kidding.
He turned a meager sweat box of a small boxing facility hidden in the hills of Coal Center into one of the most well-known and sought after training spots for some of the sport’s biggest names.
