The deadlines for boys and girls wishing to register to play in the Mon Valley Independent Summer Basketball League are quickly approaching.

Registration for the Girls Division will close at noon Sunday. The Boys Division will have signups available during its tryouts through next Wednesday at the league’s home at Marx’s Court Time Sports Center. Officially, boys registration will close at 9 p.m. Wednesday.

Girls tryouts will take place Monday and Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m., followed by the boys from 7 to 9 p.m.  The Boys Division will have an additional tryout Wednesday at the same time.

“We get more and more excited as the tryouts get closer,” Girls Division commissioner Chad Carroto said. “The outreach and growth of the league has been tremendous.”

As of right now in the Girls Division, 29 WPIAL schools will be represented in the league. New to the list this season are Plum, Peters Township, Norwin, Latrobe, Gateway, Clairton and Chartiers Valley.

“That’s the whole point of the league,” Carroto said. “We want to get the best players from around the region and bring the best competition here. Having a daughter in the league, I know the best way for to get better is to play against the best players out there.”
