Vandalism increasing at NBV park

North Belle Vernon’s Community Bank Park could be closed if visitors don’t start respecting the property, council said Tuesday.
There have been several instances of vandalism at the park recently, with people writing in permanent marker on surfaces throughout the pavilion and others riding bicycles after hours, and in unauthorized areas.
Over the weekend, two children were found to be climbing on the roof of the pavilion.
While council members frequently stop by the park in their free time, and police officers routinely patrol the area, council warned it might have to take corrective action if the behavior continues.
Council President Brett Berish said the borough can’t afford to have members of the street crew repainting at the facility so frequently.
“We can’t keep sending you down there to paint every week because people are putting graffiti everywhere,” Berish said, adding that littering has also become a problem.
“I was there the other day and there were DQ and McDonald’s trash just everywhere,” Berish said. “All through the kids’ area. It was disgusting.”
