Frazier set for another rematch with Laurel

For the fifth time in the last four seasons, the Frazier softball team will look over at the opposing dugout Monday and see a familiar Laurel squad.

The Commodores enter the PIAA playoffs as the third-place team from the WPIAL and will meet the Class 2A champions from Laurel in a first-round bout 4 p.m. at North Allegheny High School.

The two teams will be meeting for the second time in less than two weeks as the Spartans defeated the Commodores by a 15-4 score in the WPIAL semifinals.

In that game, Laurel used a seven-run first inning to set the tone and it never looked back, finishing off the game in six innings with another seven spot.

Kaylee Withrow led the way for the Spartans with a four-hit effort, including a pair of doubles, and three RBIs. Addie Deal and Eva Kuth each had three hits, while Autumn Boyd and Abbie Miles had two. Miles led the team with a homer and four RBIs.

Boyd was relatively unhittable in the pitching circle as she allowed four runs (one earned) on three hits. She walked five and struck out 13 in six innings.
