The annual summer concert series at Renziehausen Park will get a late start this year, according to Mayor Michael Cherepko.

At Wednesday’s council meeting, Cherepko provided an update on the concerts, which are made possible thanks to the city, the McKeesport Lions Club and the Allegheny Regional Asset District (RAD).

“Typically, we start our concerts in the park on Father’s Day,” he said. “We’re delaying them a couple weeks, but by the Fourth of July, I think we’re going to be ready for our summer concerts in the park.”

Councilman Jim Barry asked if a schedule has been completed. Cherepko said Dan Carr of the Lions Club is working to finalize the schedule and book the acts.

The concerts have attracted countless music lovers to the McKeesport Lions Club Bandshell  over the years.

It’s not uncommon to hear music lovers who were around in the mid-1970s reminiscing about when Aerosmith performed at the park. The popular rockers attracted a massive crowd as they performed songs such as “Same Old Song and Dance,” “Dream On,” “Somebody” and “S.O.S.” in 1974.

Concerts in recent years have featured bands such as Beatlemania Magic, The Jaggerz, Scott, Rob and Greg of The Clarks, The Vogues, Dancing Queen, The Skyliners, The Igniters, River City Brass, Totally 80s and more.
