John ‘Moon’ Selestak – Monessen

John “Moon” Selestak, 90, of Monessen, passed away on Sunday, May 30, 2021, in Monongahela Valley Hospital. He was born on July 5, 1930, in Monessen, the son of the late William and Mary Zydowski Selestak. Moon was a lifelong resident of Monessen and a 1948 graduate of Monessen High School. He served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps during the Korean War. He was a member of St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church and was a life member of the Ukrainian Club in Monessen. He retired with 43 years of service from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel, Allenport plant. Moon enjoyed gardening, woodworking, and spending time with his family and friends. He was a “Mr. Fix It” for his ability to fix just about anything. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Michaeline “Mickey” Notorangelo Selestak; two sisters, Anne Morrow and Mary Capolino; and three brothers, Alex, Michael, and Stephen Selestak. Surviving are his son, John M. (Teri) Selestak of Chesterfield, Mo.; daughter, Sharon (Angelo) Garofalo of Pleasant Hills; granddaughter, Alissa (Joseph) Hunt; and nieces and nephews. Private visitation and funeral services were held in DALFONSO-BILLICK FUNERAL HOME INC. AND CREMATION SERVICES, 441 Reed Ave., Monessen, with Father Stephen Wahal officiating. Interment followed in Grandview Cemetery, Monessen. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Monessen Center for Active Adults, 1925 Grand Blvd., Monessen, PA 15062 or Mon Valley Paws, P.O. Box 47, Monessen, PA 15062.
