Monessen won’t be charged for water main break in 2020

Mon Valley Sewage Authority officials agreed Monday to exonerate the city of Monessen for a water bill incurred during a water main break last year at one of the city’s ball fields.

Authority officials unanimously approved waiving an approximately $1,500 water bill after a water leak last year at the ball field at Columbus Park.

Authority General Manager Thomas Salak told board members he received an email from Monessen City Administrator John Harhai that said if the board would “excuse the current charge, they would be very thankful.”

While the motion was approved unanimously, board member Catherine Tucker said the exoneration will be a one-time deal.

“I’ll make a motion that we exonerate it this time,” she said while she held up one finger. “This time.”
