Belle Vernon Area was limited to just two hits in a 4-1 loss to Uniontown in Section 2-4A play Wednesday afternoon.
The Leopards (8-7, 5-4), who earned a 13-2 win over the Red Raiders in their previous meeting on April 16, had just one extra base hit on a fifth-inning double by Olivia Kolowitz. Vanessa Porter had the other hit for BVA, a team that has now lost four of its last five games.
“We didn’t deserve to win today,” BVA head coach Tom Rodriguez said. “I have no idea what’s going on with us. I’m befuddled.”
Uniontown’s Jordan Hoover kept the BVA bats in check throughout the day.
She allowed one earned run on two hits while walking one and striking out nine.
The lone Leopards’ run scored in the bottom of the first inning off Hoover as Porter singled and advanced to third on an error. She later scored on a fielder’s choice off the bat of Sophie Godzak.
“Her changeup made the biggest difference, I think,” Rodriguez said of Hoover. “We just have to hit better. There is no question about that.”
