Yolanda Greco McCarthy
When God said…“find me an angel loved by all,” Tuesday morning His wish was fulfilled when he called our Yolanda to fill the bill. This Donora- born child claimed Jan. 4, 1929, her official birthday and lived it delightfully for 92 years. A graduate of Donora High School with two years at the University of Pittsburgh, she stayed for 20 years at Donora Lumber and 10 more with Ford Motor Credit in Dearborn. An utterly charming lady for all of her years who captured the hearts of many with her friendly and sincere manner. Young and old often recall the captivating conversations held with her. She lived briefly in Florida but missed her hometown about which she continually praised and elevated. Burdened over the years, this three-time cancer victim refused to concede, fighting back with a renewed vigor that folks could not believe. Even in the past two years while COPD affected her breathing, she fought yet another battle, which this time brought her down. She’ll be remembered as a staunch Catholic who believed in her faith and lived it bravely to the very end. Her love of life and all that went with it drew praise from all who were fortunate to share the good times. The Dear Lord and His followers now can enjoy her complete beauty up close.Yolanda was preceded in death by her parents, James and Elizabeth Costa Greco; three sisters, Carolyn, Virginia and Geraldine; and two brothers, William and James. Surviving to cherish her memory is her husband, Thomas J. McCarthy; a daughter, Kerry; and eight stepchildren; 16 stepgrandchildren; five sisters, Jean Gilmore, Rose Simpson, Marie Palucis, Rita Garde and Joanne Hackinson; and 36 nieces and nephews.
