Harry R. Sickels Jr. – Monongahela

Funeral services were held for Harry R. Sickels Jr., 87, of Monongahela, who died Thursday, April 22, 2021, in Monongahela Valley Hospital. Born Jan. 25, 1934, in Monongahela, he was the son of Harry R. Sr. and Velma Bartoletti Sickels. A 1952 graduate of Monongahela High School, Mr. Sickels graduated from California University, where he earned his bachelor’s degrees in chemistry, physics and science. He retired in 2006 from Ringgold School District, where he taught as a math teacher for more than 20 years, leaving an impact on our area’s youth. Prior to teaching, he worked as a metallurgist at Hummel and Combustion Engineering. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps for one enlistment. Later, he belonged to the Ringgold Education Association and was a former member of the Henry M. Phillips Masonic Lodge in Monongahela. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Robert Sr. and Lisa Sickels; and a daughter, Amy Sickels-Leavor, all of Monongahela; a sister, Martha Muniz and husband Joe of Carroll Township; his brothers-in-law, Thomas and wife Kay Resh and John Resh, all of Elizabeth Forward area; and five grandchildren, Kathryn Sickels, Joshua Leavor, Heather, Robert Jr. and Jimmy Sickels. Preceding him in death was his wife, Shirley A. Resh Sickels, who died Nov. 6, 2014; and a sister-in-law, Karen Resh. Interment was held in Monongahela Cemetery.
