Leps fall after Falcons’ rally

Entering Thursday’s non-section softball game, both Connellsville and Belle Vernon were looking to get back on the winning track. For the Falcons, the game was an opportunity to end a two-game slide while the Leopards were trying to return to the win column after a section loss to West Mifflin Tuesday.
Both teams hit the ball well on a chilly afternoon at Connellsville, but it was the Falcons that pieced together one huge inning and rallied for a 10-7 victory over the Leopards.
Connellsville (5-3) had four hits and took advantage of two Belle Vernon errors to score six runs in the sixth inning on its way to the win.
“It’s a good win for us,” Connellsville coach John Burd said. “We were down early, but we kept battling. We were hitting the ball well. I think that’s the best we have hit all year.”
The Falcons finished with 14 hits while Belle Vernon checked in with 10.
The teams traded runs in the first as Ashley Joll homered off Connellsville starter Iris Burd in the top of the inning before the Falcons tied it in the bottom half when Madison Kinneer singled and scored on an error.
