Warriors, Resnik rout Titans

Each time Anna Resnik steps into the batter’s box, she takes with her the prototypical leadoff hitter mentality.

The Elizabeth Forward senior’s sole focus is to get on base by any means necessary and provide a spark at the top of the lineup.

That’s exactly what Resnik did Friday when her team needed her most.

The Robert Morris recruit broke a 2-2 tie in the top of the fifth inning with a solo home run, sparking a late offensive outburst for the Warriors in a 14-3 victory over West Mifflin in Section 2-4A play.

Resnik, who added her second home run of the game in the sixth, went 4 for 5 to lead a 20-hit attack for EF (7-2, 5-0).

“At the top of the lineup, I just want to get on base for my team and let them help me out,” Resnik said. “In the box, I just wanted to put a good swing on it and put it in play hard. I was pumped for this game all week, so I’m glad I showed up today.”

The Warriors struck for 10 of their runs in the fifth and sixth innings.

Resnik got things going with her first homer of the game in the fifth as she belted a pitch from West Mifflin’s Emily Buchleitner over the left field fence.

Brooke Markland followed Resnik’s blast with an infield single before Shelby Telegdy reached with a one-out single to right field.

After Buchleitner picked up a strikeout for the second out of the frame, the floodgates opened. Bella Gimiliano came up with an RBI single and Kailey Larcinese drove in a pair with a triple off the right field fence to make it 6-2 in favor of EF. Lauren Vay got in on the action as well, lining an RBI single into right to push the lead to five.

“I definitely think Anna’s home run pumped us up a lot in that inning,” said Larcinese, who went 3 for 4 and finished a double shy of the cycle in the win.

“Both teams were locked in going into that inning and Anna got us hyped up with that at-bat. Normally, once one of us hits, there is a trickle down effect through the whole lineup.”
