The Belle Vernon track team swept Ringgold and Uniontown while the Rams did the same to the Red Raiders in a dual meet Thursday at Joe Montana Stadium.

The Leopards’ boys won against the Rams, 98-42, and the girls won, 113-37. Ringgold’s boys beat Uniontown by a 80-63 score, while the girls were victorious, 113-37.

BVA’s boys held an advantage over the Rams in sprinting events while Ringgold had the better of the results in distance events.

“We have a lot of depth in our distance runners. Our strength is our distance but we are down sprinters,” Rams head coach Jennifer McMichael said. “That just hurts us. If you don’t have depth in every event, every area, what can you do? But that’s my job, to build that.”

Ringgold’s 1600 and 3200 relay team of Ryan Pajak, Ben Daerr, Nick Whaley and Lucas Pajak took home first place in both meets. Pajak also took an individual first in the 1600-meter race, Lorenzo Zeni won the 3200 and Zach Alvarez was the winner in the BVA meet in the 300 intermediate hurdles.

“(Zeni) is one of my top five cross country runners in the fall. I held the Pajak’s back today, I wanted to get him moving after a bit of a hiatus,” McMichael said. “He impressed me today. He ran a strategic race and put on the guns on the last stretch.”
