When the COVID-19 pandemic wiped out the spring sports season last year, athletes on the Ringgold track and field team were left feeling a sense of devastation.
Months and, for some, even years of hard work went in to preparing for a season that ended before it could even begin.
Fast forward a year, and the Rams are ready to roll.
“Everyone is feeling extremely excited to be back and they are ready to go after it individually and as a team this season,” Ringgold head coach Jen McMichael said. “Beginning with our first scrimmage meet, the athletes have impressed me with their eagerness to step up in any event necessary to try to help the team earn points and gain victories. Having this ‘all in’ mentality this early will help lead these kids to greatness in the future.”
The Rams won’t be lacking competitors this spring as the boys and girls rosters are made up of 70 total athletes with 35 on each team.
While participation is high, experience is relatively low.
“Overall we have a very young and developing team,” McMichael said. “The expectation will be to lay, brick by brick, a strong foundation of learning in each event area and then to come together as a team for future success.
“We as a coaching staff are looking to motivate our athletes to build a strong team culture in which they inspire and invest in one another, and to buy in to the process of building a future powerhouse.”
