The McKeesport Area school board has approved the district’s calendar for the 2021-22 school year.

The calendar can be viewed and downloaded at www.mckasd.net/Domain/316.

The district encourages parents and students to review it and take notes of important dates.

The first day of school for students will be Aug. 23, which is a Monday.

The first day back for teachers is Aug. 18.

Parent visitation day is scheduled for Nov. 1.

There will be an early dismissal the second Friday of each month so that staff and faculty can participate in professional development exercises.

The calendar lists Nov. 29 and Feb. 14, April 14 and April 18, 2022, as possible snow make up days, but also states that days may be added to the calendar as the school year progresses if more snow days are needed.

The district has the option of using virtual learning days since it is now a 1:1 device-friendly district, which means each student has access to an electronic device for learning, such as a laptop or electronic tablet.

Thanksgiving break is slated for Nov. 25-29, and winter break is scheduled for Dec. 23 to Jan 2. There is a second winter break listed that lasts from March 11 to 14. Spring break will be April 14 to April 18.

Toward the end of the school year, May 6, 2022, will serve as an Act 80 day so that students close to graduation can present their senior projects.

Graduation and the last day for students are set for June 1, 2022. The last day for teachers is June 6.

MASD’s 2022 Kennywood picnic is planned for June 9.

There are 12 Act 80 days scheduled for next school year, three in August, two in November, one each in January and February, two in May and three in June.
