Michael Kuvinka Jr., 86, of Monessen, died Friday, March 12, 2021, in UPMC Family Hospice, Pittsburgh. He was born on July 1, 1934, in Monessen, the son of the late Michael and Helen Trusa Kuvinka Sr. Mike was a lifelong resident of Monessen and a 1952 graduate of Monessen High School. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Education from California State Teachers College and his master’s degree from West Virginia University. Mike worked in the City of Monessen School District and Mon Valley Career and Technology Center as a guidance counselor. He served his country during the Korean War with the U.S. Coast Guard. Mike was a member of American Legion Post 28, the Half Fast Golf League, Pennsylvania Association of Retired Teachers and a former member of Elks Lodge 773. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Virginia R. Johns Kuvinka; son, Michael (Betty) Kuvinka III of Woodbury, N.J.; two daughters, Laura Ann Kuvinka of Greensburg and Kathee Kuvinka of Pittsburgh; two grandchildren, Michelle (Corey) Daigle and Michael Kuvinka IV; three sisters, Nancy (Charlie) Gray of Farmington Hills, Mich., Susan (Dennis) Yankosky of Plymouth Meeting, Pa., and Kathie (Robert) Basehore of Columbus, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Dawn Kuvinka; and an infant son, David Kuvinka. Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at DALFONSO-BILLICK FUNERAL HOME INC. AND CREMATION SERVICES, 441 Reed Ave., Monessen. Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home with Pastor Sandy Fitzgibbons officiating. Interment will follow in Monongahela Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to UPMC Family Hospice, by going to www.familyhospicepa.org.
