By obits

James “Dennis” Sukel, 77, of Belle Vernon, beloved father, grandfather and brother, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2021, at Jefferson Hospital. He was born March 4, 1943, in Charleroi, a son of the late James Paul and Grace Sukel. He was a graduate of Rostraver High School, Class of 1961. He was a volunteer firefighter for Belle Vernon Fire Department and worked in construction until he moved to West Palm Beach, Fla., in 1989. Dennis spent the following years raising his children in Florida, where he coached softball and football and ended his career as a car salesman. In retirement, he lived in Salisbury, N.C., where he was a member of High Rock Community Church. He enjoyed spending time with and caring for his family in Florida, North Carolina and Pennsylvania and his Shih Tzu, Bella, was his “Baby Girl.” He was a big teddy bear with a heart of gold and always let you know that he loved you, not only through his words, but most importantly by his actions. He is survived by his sister, Kathryn Cook of Elberton, Ga.; daughters, Carley Gavillan of Concord, N.C., and Kristy Walker of Port Saint Lucie, Fla.; sons, Jamie Sukel of Port Saint Lucie, Fla., Chad Sukel and his wife Nicole of New Eagle, James Dennis Sukel Jr. and his wife Madison of Boynton Beach, Fla.; and 11 grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Edward “Eddie” Sukel. In lieu of a funeral, Dennis wanted his ashes spread in Pennsylvania, North Carolina and Florida. His children and grandchildren will honor his final wishes.
