BV native Edwards at the top of Explorer Club of Pittsburgh
By the MVI
The Explorers Club of Pittsburgh recently recognized Belle Vernon native Ron Edwards Jr. for his many achievements and service as its president since 2015.
A virtual awards celebration was conducted via Zoom Jan. 14 and an in-person event was postponed until this summer.
He is one of only 14 members to have been awarded life membership in the prestigious club since its inception in 1947. It is the highest honor the club can bestow on a member.
The board of directors unanimously recognized Edwards by citing his efforts at modernizing the organization’s policies, expanding its membership by more than 60% and implementing a digital-based club management system while president.
A member since 2002, Edwards has also been an instructor in the organization’s schools for mountaineering, rock climbing, backpacking and mountain biking.
