Speers Council President Curt Rice has been selected to chair the Charleroi Regional Police Board.

Rice will take over for the late Bill Lee, who passed away Dec. 18 from COVID-19.

Lee served as Speers Mayor and chairman of the police board.

Rice was formerly vice chairman, a position that will now be handled by North Charleroi Mayor Steve Hega.

Roberta Doerfler, borough secretary for Charleroi, will now serve as secretary to the police board, according to board Solicitor Todd Pappasergi.

Fred Schwalb, a North Charleroi councilman, will remain in his position as treasurer.

Additionally, Schwalb, Charleroi Councilman Jerry Jericho, North Charleroi Council President Carrie Zeletski and newly appointed Speers Mayor Tim Herd will lead the finance committee.

Jericho, Hega and Charleroi Councilwoman Nancy Ellis will oversee the personnel committee.
