Authority of the Borough of Charleroi: Deadline nears for customers to avoid water shutoffs

Authority of the Borough of Charleroi customers have less than two weeks to sign up for a payment plan before termination procedures resume for delinquent bills.

In October, the authority announced it would begin a phased lifting of its water termination moratorium.

The new policy went into effect Dec. 1 for customers who had been illegally receiving water service from the authority and those who the Mon Valley Sewage Authority had requested to be shut off.

Others with delinquent balances could, and still can, sign up for a payment plan that will require customers to pay $50 extra per month until back balances are paid in full.

Once the entirety of the late balance has been paid, the payment plan will have been successfully completed.

Customers must sign up for the payment plan by Feb. 1 to avoid having their water service shut off.

The authority estimates the average customer delinquency is $500.

Customers who have questions concerning their Mon Valley Sewage Authority accounts must contact the sewage authority directly because the water authority does not have access to those accounts.

For questions about authority water bills or to set up a payment plan, call the authority’s service center at 724-483-3585.
