The first special project of the year for the Rostraver Township Commissioners could be new heating and air conditioning for the Rostraver Township Historical Society.
Society President Stu Boyd asked the commissioners to consider covering the $11,500 cost of two new furnaces and air conditioning units.
“We helped them out last year on a couple of projects they had going on,” Commissioner Chairman John Lorenzo said at Wednesday’s work session. “I firmly support and believe in what the historical society does for our township.”
In a letter to the commissioners, Boyd stated the historical society is covering the cost of installing new hardwood flooring in the first-floor meeting room. They are also raising money to complete the flooring project on the second floor as well as installing a handicapped-accessible bathroom.
The commissioners decided it might be best to seek additional quotes for the HVAC work before proceeding, to keep it in line with other township contracts.
“Instead of cutting a check to the historical society as a donation, Rostraver Township owns that building, so it may be better if the township cuts a check to pay for the work,” said Commissioner Devin DeRienzo.
Township Manager Jeff Keffer said it might also be best to hold off until tax money starts to come in. Keffer said with tax bills going out in March, funds should be available in April.
