A Virginia truck driver is being held without bond in the Washington County Correctional Facility on charges including homicide by vehicle related to a fatal accident on Interstate 70 in Fallowfield Township Monday morning.
According to the affidavit of probable cause filed with the charges, Hosea Holcomb IV, 27, of Emporium, Va., knew he had been involved in a collision, but didn’t see any damage when he looked in his mirror, so he kept going.
Another motorist, James Michael Hamilton, witnessed the accident and provided police with the license plate number on Holcomb’s tractor trailer. Hamilton had reported Holcomb’s driving to emergency services prior to the accident.
“Hamilton described the defendant’s driving action by saying he was all over the road and in and out of the lanes of travel,” Tpr. Zachary Casini wrote in the affidavit. “Hamilton related that when the crash occurred, the defendant vehicle was over the fog line.”
John Marvin Isenberg III, 33, of Toronto, Ohio, was found on the shoulder of the road and was pronounced dead at the scene. Isenberg, also a truck driver, reportedly pulled his rig over to attend to a problem with his truck.
He was standing on the shoulder at the time of the accident, according to witnesses.
“Holcomb also related that he got less than five hours of sleep the night before. Holcomb stated that he stopped prior to the collision and had to take a 45-minute power nap,” Casini wrote in the affidavit.
