Hounds start fast in rout of Bearcats

Three days after suffering a six-point nonsection defeat at the hands of Sewickley Academy in its season opener, Monessen wasted little time responding in a positive way to open up section play Tuesday.

The Greyhounds used a strong first quarter effort to pull away early and capture a lopsided 66-22 victory over Bentworth in Section 4-2A play on the newly renamed Major Corley Court.

Monessen (1-1, 1-0) led by 18 after eight minutes before continuing its onslaught in the following three quarters, outscoring the Bearcats, 44-18.

“I think we did a better job of starting this game than we did on Saturday against Sewickley, so that was an improvement and something we really focused on with the kids,” Monessen head coach Dan Bosnic said. “We wanted to come out with that energy and make sure the effort was there that we needed from the start of the game.”
