A Washington Township police officer has filed a federal lawsuit against the municipality claiming she is the victim of race and gender discrimination.
Christina Good, who has been employed as a Washington Township officer since August 2018, is represented by attorneys Joel S. Sansone and Elizabeth A. Tuttle.
The civil complaint filed Dec. 23 states that Good, an African-American female, feels the township violated the amended Civil Rights Acts of 1964 and 1991 and the Pennsylvania Human Relation Act when it removed her from an acting lieutenant position without giving proper reasoning.
She also claims the township gives favorable treatment to Caucasian and male employees as well as female employees who are or were not pregnant. Good contends that she’s been subject to a hostile work environment as a result of alleged “harassing behaviors” on the part of Supervisor Chuck Yusko.
In the civil complaint, Good’s attorneys argue that Yusko “has repeatedly followed (Good) while she is on duty in her patrol car” and that Good is the only employee subjected to the alleged behavior by the supervisor.
The filing states that Good has made several complaints to the township about Yusko’s alleged behavior and that she feels the alleged treatment comes as a result of her race.
The federal civil filing doesn’t specify state which township leaders Good directed her complaints to.
In July 2019, Good applied for the vacant position of police lieutenant, according to the civil complaint, which states that in October 2019, Good informed the township she was pregnant.
She was appointed to the position of acting lieutenant Dec. 11, 2019.
