Roy A. Hixenbaugh – Belle Vernon

Roy A. Hixenbaugh, 98, (a Notch Baby), of Belle Vernon, passed away on Friday, Dec. 25, 2020, in Country Care Manor. A son of the late Herman and Bertha Wolfe Hixenbaugh, he was born in Morgantown, W.Va., on July 14, 1922. A lifelong resident of Belle Vernon, he was a member of First United Methodist Church. Roy retired from the Monessen plant of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Company in 1984 and was in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He served on the attack cargo ship AKA 12 Libra and was present on V-J Day for the signing of the Japanese surrender on Sept. 2, 1945. Survivors include a stepdaughter, Karla Nichols-Evans; and several nieces and nephews, including Tom and Teri Hewitt, with whom he resided for the past two years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Caringola Hixenbaugh, on Nov. 7, 1998; two sisters, Carol Hixenbaugh in 2007 and Jean Shook; and a brother, Lee Hixenbaugh, in 2007. There will be no public visitation or funeral services. Private burial will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery on Wednesday.
