To Monongahela resident Laura Magone, baking cookies means more than just satisfying a sweet tooth.
Magone, president of the Monongahela Area Historical Society, has decided to show that baking cookies is an act of kindness that comes straight from the heart.
The society has teamed up with Homestead’s LifeSpan and its 11th annual Meals on Wheels Cookie Campaign to make sure low-income seniors get a taste of buckeyes, pizzelles, biscotti and more this holiday season.
Magone is calling on all bakers in Monongahela to bake their best cookies and drop them off at the Longwell House at 711 West Main St. LifeSpan will pick them up from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday for the Mid-Mon Valley Cookie Porch Drop Off.
“LifeSpan came to me to rally the troops to bake cookies after they saw my Facebook Wedding Cookie Page,” Magone said. “They deliver Meals on Wheels and they realize the holidays have been hard on people.”
Located in Pittsburgh’s Homestead neighborhood, LifeSpan is a nonprofit agency providing critical support services for residents of Allegheny County ages 60 and older. Programs and services include care management, family caregiver support, protective services, home-delivered meals and community resource centers for older adults.
For its Cookie Campaign, LifeSpan hopes to collect 450 dozen cookies.
