Area organizations in contention for WCCF People’s Choice Award

A number of Mon Valley organizations are being recognized by the Washington County Community Foundation in its web-based People’s Choice Award contest, which runs through Nov. 25.

The winning nonprofit will receive a $5,000 unrestricted grant.

The People’s Choice Award contest highlights volunteer testimonials from 25 Washington County nonprofits that were designated as Charity of Excellence honorees earlier this year.

To be considered for the special Charity of Excellence distinction, nonprofits were evaluated on four criteria: quality and variety of programming, community impact as gauged by the number of people served relative to the operating budget, volunteer engagement and the organization’s financial improvement over the last five years.

The Charity of Excellence honorees from the Valley are the Donora Public Library Association, Mon Valley YMCA, Mon Valley Youth and Teen Association, Monongahela Valley Hospital, the CARE Center and Village of FPC.

To support any of these organizations, visit the Community Foundation’s Storybook website at storybook.wccf.net and view the charity’s volunteer story.
