Eden Christian ends Serra’s season

For much of the game, Serra Catholic kept Eden Christian within arm’s reach.

The Warriors scored, and then the Eagles answered back on two different occasions. But eventually Eden Christian broke free of the trend.

With 9:14 left in the game, Ben Rice shot one from in close into the top of the net to give the Warriors a lead they wouldn’t relinquish. Jack Jones added another three minutes later to firmly seal the deal as Eden Christian beat Serra Catholic, 4-2, in the first round of WPIAL Class A playoffs.

“I thought they did a nice job creating pressure and running a lot of guys back post there, trying to confuse marks, and things like that,” Eagles coach Chad Bruns said of Rice’s goal.

“They were taking it down the sideline a lot and making sure they were overloading the back and they finally got free on that one.”

Although Serra Catholic was able to keep the score within one goal for much of the game, the play on the field wasn’t quite as close. Eden Christian dominated, putting 20 shots on net to Serra Catholic’s three. Many of those shots were high quality chances.
