Local law enforcement officers on Friday partnered with North Versailles Walmart to provide a surprise for the McKeesport Area School District.

Chief Deputy Kevin Kraus said Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office deputies worked with McKeesport police officers and Walmart staff to donate and deliver $5,000 worth of school supplies to MASD.

“Our agency is once again extremely grateful to support local families in need during this challenging time when community support is needed most,” Kraus said, adding that he and Deputy Sheriff Jason Tarap “offer a huge and heartfelt thank you to our friends at Walmart for their support of our agency’s community-driven initiatives, as well as representatives of the McKeesport School District for helping us ensure all of today’s donations get to deserving families struggling during this pandemic.”

MASD spokeswoman Kristen James said the school supplies will be distributed throughout the district’s buildings in the coming days.

“We are thankful for the collaboration between the Allegheny County Sheriff’s Department, Walmart in North Versailles, and the McKeesport Police Department, who worked together to benefit the students of the McKeesport Area School District,” James said. “It was heart-warming to be able to witness all of the individuals who came together to supply our students with notebooks, binders, and other school supplies.”
