The Belle Vernon Area boys’ soccer team was opportunistic on offense and smothering on defense Saturday evening in a 3-0 win over rival Ringgold at Joe Montana Stadium.

The Leopards (9-0, 8-0) are just one of a handful of unbeaten teams in the WPIAL and hold a two-game lead in Section 3-3A with seven matches left in the regular season.

“These guys continue to show up every day and they have a great mindset,” BVA coach Rob Miele said. “We are just worried about the things that we can control. You have to improve as a team every time you hit the field.

“In my opinion, this team has picked up from last year’s team. We only lost two seniors from that team, and the guys have brought the right intensity and have shown their experience.”

BVA has outscored its opponents by a 34-8 margin, and the defense has been credited with four shutouts.

The Rams (2-6, 2-6) are tied for fifth with Albert Gallatin in the section.

“This has been a process for us,” Ringgold coach Matt Snyder said. “We are asking the guys to change some things and there’s going to be that adjustment period. We have to continue to do the right thing and we have a great group of seniors. The season is not over by no means, and they know that.”
