Frank James Curka Jr., 83, died unexpectedly on July 7, 2020, at his home in Hunters-ville, N.C. He was born on Jan. 23, 1937, in Monongahela to the late Frank Sr. and Mary Zynosky Curka. Frank was married to his wife, Anita née Roule, from 1959, until her death in 1987. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by his parents; his brother, Joseph Curka; and his son, Gregory Curka. He is survived by his son, Jeffrey Curka of Raleigh, N.C.; his daughter, Chrisanne Flynn of Huntersville, N.C., and her husband Joe; and his three grandchildren, Emma, Sara and Joseph Flynn. Frank graduated from Monongahela High School and worked in construction to fund his education at the University of Pittsburgh. After graduating from Pitt in 1960, he began a 39-year career at a CPA firm in Pittsburgh that would eventually become Deloitte. He became a partner at the firm in 1972. He spent the majority of his fulfilling career in New York City, where he enjoyed such challenges as working on record-setting acquisitions and expanding his experience to the global stage. He retired from Deloitte in 1999. After retiring, he moved from Chatham, N.J., to Huntersville, N.C., to be closer to his children and grandchildren. Affectionately known as “Pappap,” he played a large role in the lives of his grandchildren. He loved engaging them with riddles and attending their sporting events. He was a constant presence at his grandson’s baseball games, where he would always help the umpires make the right calls. He also enjoyed beach vacations at Emerald Isle, N.C. and cheering for Pittsburgh sports teams. Contributions can be made in his memory to the Curka Accounting Scholarship at University of Pittsburgh – PAE, 128 North Craig St., 107 Park Plaza, Pittsburgh, PA 15260. Friends will be received from 10-11:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 10, 2020, at Frye Funeral Home Inc., 427 W. Main St., Monongahela. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at noon in St. Andrew the Apostle Parish, 722 W. Main Street, Monongahela. Inurnment will be private and in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Monongahela.
