Lightning and dark clouds surrounded Commodores Field for much of the final two innings during the Mon Valley Independent Senior Swing Tournament’s opening game in Perryopolis Tuesday.

But it was Perryopolis’ Kathryn Barch and her teammates who provided all the thunder as the Commodores rolled over the Rams Fast Pitch Jrs., 15-0, in three innings to officially clinch the top seed in the Blue Division heading into today’s bracket games.

Barch finished with a pair to two-run home runs in the first inning as Perryopolis scored 11 runs on 10 hits in the frame.

“Kathryn, my goodness. I can’t say enough about her,” Perryopolis coach Don Hartman said. “You look at this 5-3, 115-pound girl in the three or four hole and then she hits two over 220 feet. She’s led this group of seniors over the four years in home runs. She probably has over 20 in her career. She’s just playing the game she loves and having fun, showing us again what might have been.”

After Logan Hartman doubled off Rams FP Jrs. pitcher Cassy Kunkle, younger sister Jensyn hammered a 1-0 pitch deep to center that bounced off the plastic fence topper and back into play for a double. Emi Curcio knocked her in with an RBI single and Barch followed with her first home run to left.

Tori Washinski scored on a passed ball and Delaney Warnick, who doubled, came in to score on Mackenzie Kelly’s RBI single to make it 6-0.

Maria Felsher delivered an RBI single to score Kelly and Felsher came in on Logan Hartman’s second double of the inning to make it 8-0.

Curcio doubled to score Logan Hartman and Barch stepped in to slug her second blast of the inning to cap the scoring for Perryopolis (3-0).

“We really hit the ball hard today,” Don Hartman said. “Jensyn and Delaney are natural power hitters as young hitters, they’re really going to fill some big holes for us in the future.”
