Playing without a number of its usual starters, Belle Vernon suffered its third straight loss in the form of a 9-2 defeat at the hands of South Park Wednesday night at the DiVirgilio Sports Complex in Rostraver Township.
Belle Vernon played without the services of Brady Hoffman, Ryan McGrew, Nick Stanger, Jared Hartman, Andrew Kostelnik and Aidan Ochs. Many of those players were away playing with travel teams, while the seniors were attending their graduation from Belle Vernon Area.
BV coach Tony Watson was forced to tinker with his lineup and use a number of underclassmen mixed with a few more experienced players.
“I’m not going to keep beating a dead horse. We are learning on the fly and we haven’t had any practices,” Watson said of his young group. “We are seeing good things, though. We’re seeing better approaches at the plate and we’re seeing a little more intensity, we just have to clean things up.
“Once we get our full complement of players back, I think we’ll be where we need to be.”
While BV’s offense mustered just four hits and its defense committed five errors, Garrett Greco kept Leopard Nation close for a majority of the contest.
