Leonard E. Dipaola Sr. – Monongahela
Leonard E. Dipaola Sr., 89, of Monongahela, died Sunday, June 21, 2020, in Hallsworth House, Monessen. Born May 15, 1931, in Monongahela, he was the son of Cateno and Anna Furiga Dipaola. After his graduation from Monongahela High School, Len was drafted into the U.S. Army and served the next 23 months in the Korean War. After returning home, he worked for the next 27 years at the former Liggett’s Spring and Axle Co. as a foreman in Monongahela until their closing. He then retired after 17 years from the former Donora Lumber Co. and then for the next 23 years was shop manager, helping his son, Anthony, at Dipaola Quality Climate Control. A member of St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church in Monongahela, Len was a member of Carroll Township American Legion Post 949 and the former I.C.C. Club in Monongahela. He helped coach his sons’ little league baseball team when they were younger and was an avid Steelers and Pirates fan, but most of all enjoyed watching the Penguins play. Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Leonard Jr. and Barbara Dipaola of Naples, Fla., and Anthony Sr. and Susan Dipaola of Champion, Pa.; a daughter and son-in-law, Christine and David Bowker of Monongahela; a brother, Anthony and wife Kay Dipaola of the state of California; a sister in law, Eileen Dipaola of Monongahela; eight grandchildren, Leonard III (BethEllyn) Dipaola, Michelle (Daniel) Greaves, Anthony Jr. (Jessica) Dipaola, Joshua Dipaola Sr. (fiancée, Cassandra Wilburn), Tyler Dipaola, Ryan (Lauren) Bowker, Ross (Chelsy) Bowker and Sara Bowker; 11 great-grandchildren, Giana and Malia Greaves and Anthony, Allison, Jaydin, Joshua Jr., Liam, Adalina, Anello and Colette Dipaola and Laney Bowker; many nieces and nephews; and a very special niece, Annette MacPherson of Monongahela. Preceding him in death were his wife, Antoinette L. (Ross) Dipaola, who died Dec. 10, 2013; a brother, Sam Dipaola; a sister, Tina Danti; and a great-granddaughter, Jocelyn Dipaola. Friends will be received at MARSHALL MARRA FUNERAL HOME, 216 Chess St., Monongahela, 724-258-6767, from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. Blessing prayers will begin in the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at St. Andrew the Apostle Parish at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 25, 2020, with Father Kevin Dominik as celebrant. Interment will follow in Monongahela Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Mon-Valley Honor Guard and Firing Squad.
