The Trinity girls basketball program was already represented in the local summer basketball circuit by the Venick twins, Emily and Kaylin.
Now the Hillers’ gang is growing.
Junior Alyssa Clutter and sophomore Eden Williamson were both selected in the first round of the Mon Valley Independent Summer Basketball League girls division draft Thursday at Cedarbrook Golf Course.
After watching a pair of workouts Monday and Tuesday, coaches of the six teams were obviously impressed with the new crop of talent, selecting six newcomers in the first round.
Clutter, ranked as the No. 9 junior in the state by Maxpreps, was selected by Edward Jones head coach Larry Cash and his assistant, Mike Gerdich.
“I heard good things about her and watched her on Hudl. She looked real good. I need a good player and the main thing she’s a junior,” Cash said. “I just talked to her mom and it looks like she’s going to make all the games, and that’s a good thing for our team.”
But Cash said his best pick to fill another need may have been Canon-McMillon’s Tori Wesolowski.
“I think my steal was the girl from Canon-Mac,” Cash said. “I know they show their highlights on Hudl and she had a few. If they’re on there, they have to have something.”
