If the spring sports season would have gone on as scheduled in March, it’s likely Kailey Larcinese wouldn’t have started the year in the pitching circle.
In fact, the Elizabeth Forward junior might have missed her entire junior season.
Larcinese has dealt with an injury to her throwing arm since November. She was held out of offseason practices due to what was believed to be an elbow issue and was later revealed to be a shoulder ailment.
“It came back that my shoulder was rocked forward and that was what was causing my pain through my arm,” said Larcinese, who was told in March that she did not have a tear and didn’t require surgery. Instead, she was ordered to take part in physical therapy.
“I have been training like crazy to get back as soon as possible,” Larcinese said. “I would like to give a huge thanks to every one of my trainers at Allegheny Health Network. They have had a huge impact on my recovery.”
While the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted a number of athletes across the country, it might have served as a blessing in disguise in a sense for Larcinese.
According to EF head coach Harry Rutherford, her rehabilitation stopped once counties in Pennsylvania were listed in the red phase.
With facilities reopening during the yellow phase, Larcinese has been able to resume her rehab process.
“I have been able to train three days a week, which is more than normal,” said Larcinese, a Towson University commit. “I was definitely shocked (to hear of the season being canceled), but I’m glad it gave me more recovery time.”
