Samuel F. Ditta, 97, of Charleroi, died Friday, May 15, 2020, in Oakleaf Personal Care Home, Baldwin. Born March 21, 1923, in Charle- roi, he was the son of Frank and Serafina Pillitteri Ditta. During World War II, Sam served on several Navy ships as a Merchant Marine. He worked for more than 35 years at U.S. Steel’s Allen Port plant and was proud to have been one of the very first members of the 10th Street Club in Charleroi. An avid bowler, he always loved doing carpentry and remodeling projects. Surviving are a son, James Ditta of Florida; two daughters, Joyce A. and husband Donald Hennessey of McMurray, and Amy Ditta of Pleasant Hills; nine grandchildren, Melissa Gullick, Shawn Hennessey, Melinda Dohmen, Christopher, Frank and Melanie Ditta, Corey Wilson, Cheri McMillian and Natalie Carter; 15 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his wife of 71 years, Leola A. Warren Ditta, who died Jan. 5, 2016; a daughter, Connie Walters, who died in April 2018; two brothers, Joseph and Carlo Ditta; and five sisters, Mary Balotti, Irene Ditta, Rose Pillitteri, Florence Abraham and Nancy Karlosky. Due to COVID-19, a family funeral was held Monday, May 18, 2020, followed by interment in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Carroll Township.
