The Mon Valley Regional Chamber of Commerce “family” is getting bigger.

On Friday, the Twin Rivers Chamber of Commerce, based in Rostraver Township, announced on Facebook it will be merging with its chamber neighbor, the MVRCC.

Jake Cuthbert, president of the Twin Rivers Chamber of Commerce, said the board of directors has contemplated the future of the organization since February.

“After much thought and consideration, and with you the members’ best interest in mind, we have decided that the Twin Rivers Chamber of Commerce will merge with the Mon Valley Regional Chamber of Commerce,” Cuthbert said in a letter. “We truly believe this transaction will give members a stronger organization and widen the breadth of exposure for both membership bases.”

The TRC merged with the Rostraver Business Association in 2006 to form the Greater Rostraver Chamber of Commerce.

The organization changed its name and logo to better reflect its service and membership last year.

The chamber serves the Mon Valley, including Rostraver Township, but extends to Perryopolis, West Newton, Star Junction, Sutersville, Elizabeth, Smithton and surrounding communities in Allegheny, Fayette, Washington and Westmoreland counties.

Long-time executive director of the TRC Gina Lynn left her position for a new job in March, but has remained involved through a transitional period.

On Friday, she offered a message to the organizations as they move forward.

“I have been with you through the transition of the TRC merger to MVR since my official departure back at the beginning of March,” Lynn said. “Today’s announcement from TRC Board President Jake Cuthbert makes the merger official and brings closure to me, personally, for my last 12 years as your chamber director.

“Thank you to the many friends in business that I have grown to know and love.”
