Serra Catholic will be on the hunt for a new boys basketball coach after Justin Walther tendered his resignation Thursday.
Walther, who coached the Eagles over the past four seasons, said it was time to move on.
“It hasn’t been a secret that I’ve been looking elsewhere,” Walther said. “I appreciate everything Serra Catholic and (athletic director) Bill Cleary has done for me. I felt like it was time to move on. I want to coach against the very best and am looking to move up. I’m confident in my abilities and I’m banking on myself to move up the ladder.
“I wanted Serra Catholic to have ample time to fill the position, that’s the reasoning for the timing of my decision.”
Walther finished his career at Serra with an overall record of 58-36 with a section mark of 39-13.
“I would like to thank Justin for his four good years as our basketball coach at Serra,” Cleary said shortly after announcing Walther’s resignation. “He resigned, I believe, for personal reasons and to explore other opportunities.
“I will begin the search for a new coach immediately. In this pandemic, I will probably have to use Zoom or Skype for interviews.”
