Remember When?: BVA girls knock off McKeesport
By THE VALLEY INDEPENDENT
Belle Vernon Area’s girls softball has been used to winning its section.
After all, the Lady Leps won five straight Sec. 3 titles before moving into Sec. 11 this season.
BVA probably won’t win the section crown this season, but the Lady Leps made a loud statement about their ability Monday at Washington Township when they knocked off previously undefeated McKeesport, 6-5. McKeesport (7-1) came into the game as the third-ranked team in Class AAA.
In the process, BVA also bolstered its chances for a sixth straight WPIAL Class AAA playoff berth.
“This was a big win for us because we’re used to making the playoffs,” said Lady Lep coach Lou Rood. “We won five straight section titles and didn’t get a chance to defend the last one, but we’re battling in this section.”
The Lady Leps (8-6, 6-3) trailed 2-0 in the second inning when they scored five runs on five hits. Natalie Lang, Barb Brletich and Karen Hixson each singled home a run and Karen Kosh doubled home another.
