White Oak uncertain if pool will open on time

White Oak council streamed Monday’s council meeting via Facebook Live and Zoom for the second month in a row, discussing how the coronavirus, social distancing and Gov. Tom Wolf’s stay-at-home order are impacting borough projects, events and first responders.

Borough manager John Palyo, councilmen George Dillinger and George Pambacas, Councilwoman Julie Opferman, engineer Ken Hillman, Solicitor Pat McGrail and White Oak EMS Chief Paul Falavolito attended the meeting via video chat, while Mayor Ina Jean Marton and councilmen Chuck Davis, Lou Bender, Kenn Robb and Ed Babyak joined by phone.

To comply with Pennsylvania Sunshine Act rules about transparency and public participation, borough residents were given a chance to review the meeting agenda two days prior to the meeting and comment on it by sending an email to the borough building.

A resident who identified herself via email as Jan W., a board member for the White Oak Swim Team, asked if the borough intends to open the Heritage Hill Pool Complex this summer. She said the swim team usually begins its recruitment efforts in May and was curious if they should be postponed.

Palyo explained that “it’s a little bit too early” for the borough to give a definitive answer for two separate reasons that are both related to COVID-19.
