Interact Club donates fleece blankets to SPHS Connect
For the MVI
The Charleroi Area Interact Club recently donated fleece blankets to SPHS Connect’s homeless assistance programs.
SPHS Connect Supervisor Tracy Scott visited Charleroi Area High School to accept the blankets, which will be distributed to the agency’s Welcome Home Shelter in Greensburg and Family Shelter in Washington.
“Connect Inc. is greatly appreciative of the support Charleroi Area Interact Club has extended to some of the most vulnerable families in our community,” said Lyndsay Burrik, executive for Community Wellness and Recovery at Connect, Inc.
“For many of us, a blanket is just an object we might not pay much mind to sitting on the backs of our sofas or on our beds. But the families leaving our shelters have to start over, with just a few of their own possessions. When you are in a situation where you might need so much, a blanket can mean everything.”
At an Interact Club meeting early in the school year, club treasurer Sarah Grace Porter suggested the club make fleece-tie blankets to donate to a worthy cause.
Interact members worked after school and during free time during the school day to match, cut and tie the fleece blankets. In addition, Interact members partnered with Tammy Hite’s Life Skills Support class in the project.
“We hope the blankets make people happy,” said Interact Club secretary Samantha Fleming. “It was a fun project and we look forward to making them again next year.”
