McKeesport council voted unanimously this week to move forward with “McKeesport Rising” paving projects.

Council approved two resolutions granting a two-part contract, part A and part B, to El Grande Construction of Donora for Phase II of the roads improvement project.

McKeesport Rising, created by Mayor Michael Cherepko, is included in the city’s budget and uses grant and state tax credit money as well as city funds that came from the sale of the municipal authority to Pennsylvania American Water Co.

Its purpose is to demolish blighted properties that are deemed beyond repair, restore historic commercial properties and market them for new development, pave roads and aid current homeowners with repairs and upgrades to their homes.

During a short workshop meeting Wednesday, Cherepko gave a rundown of some of the work El Grande will perform and some of the roads that will see improvements.
