Ringgold Superintendent Megan Marie Van Fossan resigned Thursday.

One day after the school board voted to give Randall Skrinjorich, director of operations and financial services, more authority regarding employees and administrators in the district, including Van Fossan, she submitted her letter of resignation.

Thursday night she said she will transition to a new position this spring in which her sole focus will be to improve the lives of children and supporting staff in the “emotional heavy lifting that we ask them to do to meet the needs of all students.”

Van Fossan told the Ringgold staff she is sad to leave the innovative work happening throughout the district.

“I have devoted my heart and soul to these efforts since joining the Ram family, and I know that you have the talent and passion to continue this work,” Van Fossan said. “I am proud of what we have accomplished.

“Through your efforts, we implemented Professional Learning Communities, started to design high-quality instruction that supports the three networks of the brain, aligned our professional learning program with the best research in the country, kicked off new programs and curriculum to support our students, started to unpack the root causes of student stress, responded to the growing need for comprehensive mental health for students and framed a new way of measuring success beyond student test scores.”
