While students will be off school across Pennsylvania for the next two weeks, school administrators are still in the process of determining what that means for their districts.
The superintendents in area counties held teleconferences over the weekend to discuss the two-week closure. The superintendents in Washington County, where only three districts are eligible to use flexible instruction days, are moving ahead with using the days they have left and are seeking written permission to use additional days if necessary. The districts eligible to use flexible instruction days are Ringgold, Fort Cherry and McGuffey, according to Ringgold Superintendent Megan Marie Van Fossan.
Ringgold School District is continuing with plans to utilize flexible instruction days for at least the first three days of the statewide school closure and is seeking clarification as to whether it may continue to use those days as the forced closure continues.
“At this time, PDE expects schools to make up any missed time and will consider waivers only if districts are unable to meet minimum days/instructional hours by June 30, 2020,” Van Fossan stated in a letter to parents posted on social media Sunday.
